Requirements

  • BS Degree in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Science or equivalent experience
  • 4 years’ experience in Metallurgist/Technical Service role
  • Ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Steel product experience (5 years or more), preferably in the SBQ industry.

Responsibilities

  • Review and respond to metallurgical/technical issues related to customer RFQs, complaints, and general questions with the necessary urgency.
  • Meet with customers technical personnel on a regular basis to determine technical direction on new products or claim situations.
  • Establish personal relationships with OEM technical people that are responsible for material selection and specifications. Need relationship to drive better specifications for steel going into OEM parts and ability to get in on ground floor of prototypes for new designs.
  • Work closely with mill operations and metallurgical personnel to identify and correct root causes of problems, including customer feedback and complaints. Be main technical lead in large claim situation where being on customer site often is required.
  • Collaborate with plant Product Metallurgist and production teammates to qualify new products (PPAPs).
  • Prioritize and drive continuous improvement initiatives based on customer feedback, product quality data, productivity goals and cost reduction targets.
  • Establish strong relationships with customers in Technical Service activities to advance Nucor’s mission of Commercial Excellence.
