About The Position

The Pool Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of the pools and related equipment within their assigned region of Family Center locations. This role plays a vital part in ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment, supporting member engagement and retention. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in maintaining commercial swimming pools, including knowledge of pool equipment, water chemistry, and cleaning techniques required.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
  • Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have a valid Driver license. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, disinfectants, etc.).
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members’ well-being.
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment.
  • Must complete successful background screening, which includes criminal and employment verification. Some positions may additionally require a successful credit check screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification a plus.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role or working within a community-based organization is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of pool systems, including filters, pumps, heaters, and related mechanical equipment, ensuring optimal operation of Family Centers pools.
  • Address routine maintenance needs promptly, escalating major system issues to leadership and or appropriate vendors for specialized repair as directed.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the pool area by washing, scrubbing, and disinfecting pool decks, repairing drains, and maintaining overall hygiene.
  • Regularly test and document swimming pool water quality in accordance with established schedules. Adjust and balance chemicals as needed to maintain proper water chemistry and ensure compliance with health standards.
  • Perform thorough cleaning tasks, including brushing and vacuuming pools to remove debris, prevent bacterial growth, and maintain the appearance of pool surfaces.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of all pool-related areas, such as pool decks, ladders, tiles, gutter grates, pool lifts, storage rooms, and surrounding spaces.
  • Ensure proactive cleaning and maintenance schedules to align with assigned Family Center’s peak usage and events.
  • Prepare pool and surrounding areas for special events, providing operational and maintenance support to ensure successful event execution.
  • Collaborate with assigned Family Centers and Facilities team management to complete work orders, address special projects, and meet pool maintenance requirements efficiently.
  • Work closely with Facilities leadership to identify and resolve safety and maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Monitor daily pool operations to ensure adherence to YMCA of Central Florida safety procedures and comply with all state and local regulations.
  • Manage supply needs, including collecting required items from local vendors to support pool maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with safety standards, including OSHA regulations.
  • Stay informed of safety protocols and risk management procedures, responding effectively to emergency situations as trained.
  • Uphold and promote the YMCA of Central Florida’s mission and core values within the Family Center and through its programs.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to the supervisor, following current employee and member injury reporting procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
