About The Position

The position of District Maintenance Worker is for the purpose/s of maintaining District facilities in a safe operating condition; maintaining a preventive maintenance program; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.

Requirements

  • Prior job related experience.
  • Skills to operate hand and power tools used in general maintenance functions.
  • Skills to perform basic math to calculate measurements, quantities, etc.
  • Skills related to pneumatic controls (clocks, intercoms, fire alarms, etc.) and plumbing systems.
  • Knowledge of methods and use of materials, tools and equipment used in general maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of standards for safe use of equipment.
  • Knowledge of boilers/HVAC low pressure steam and pneumatic controls.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing.
  • Abilities to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Personal attributes that provide excellent customer service, coachability, friendliness and approachability.
  • Work attendance and punctuality is paramount.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant agrees to assume cost upon offer of employment).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak a second language preferred.
  • Journey-level credential in the field of plumbing, carpentry, or electrician.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect system components (e.g. parts, equipment and facility appurtenances - HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural) for the purpose of identifying potential repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Repair system components (e.g. parts, equipment and facility appurtenances - HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drywall, interior and exterior paint, baseboards, and structural) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and efficient operating condition.
  • Maintain grounds, shrubs, trees, grass, fields, gutters, parking lots and other duties as needed.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g. facility damage, damaged equipment, roof leaks, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Display leadership, problem and decision making skills.
  • Team player with all school personnel.
  • Effective and positive communication with District administrators and maintenance staff.
  • Assist other facilities personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Install system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility appurtenances for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
  • Transport materials, furnishings, equipment, supplies, waste materials, etc. for the purpose of providing and/or removing items at school and/or job sites, even functions, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Hourly differential of $3.75 above the base wage for those who possess or obtain a journey-level credential in the field of plumbing, carpentry, or electrician.
