Job SummaryProvide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction and operation of CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system.Essential Functions

Requirements

  • Requires an Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires a minimum two (2) plus years of experience in electrical or civil engineering field performing technical engineering work, including calculations, design and interpretation of technical documents.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer plans for undergrounding existing electrical distribution facilities over freeways, and for the undergrounding of overhead electrical distribution facilities in the greater Houston area.
  • Design and engineer plans for delivering express underground electrical feeds to critical customers such as hospitals.
  • Design and engineer plans for reconductoring underground electrical cable.
  • Review and analyze site plans, plan and profile drawings, electric one-lines, and schematics completed by contract engineering resources.
  • Coordinate the design and installation of new underground facilities with consulting engineers, contractors and affected CenterPoint Energy departments.
  • Prepare work orders, easement documents, cost estimates, terms & condition packages and utility construction services agreements for electric service to customers.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards, both industry and company specific (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, CenterPoint Energy Standards etc.).
  • Perform project management functions associated with contract engineering resources.
  • Communicate with contract engineering firms regarding design compliance to CenterPoint Energy Standards.
  • Evaluate material requirements for work orders, coordinate material purchases with Purchasing & Logistics and vendors, and develop and maintain project material schedules.
  • Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Field visits to obtain various measurements and data and for preconstruction meetings, as needed.
  • Gather and analyze data, perform engineering studies, prepare written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution systems.
  • Perform cable pulling and cable ampacity analysis to verify contract engineering resources’ design & constructability.
  • Perform protective device coordination studies, motor start and fault current calculations.
  • Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications.
