The Role We are looking for someone who enjoys leading construction projects, collaborating with diverse teams, and driving projects through completion while making a direct impact. In this role, you’ll manage distribution or substation projects from planning through construction and closeout, coordinating engineering, permitting, procurement, scheduling, and contractor activities. You’ll oversee project budgets, schedules, site progress, and client communication while maintaining strong relationships with field teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing distribution line or substation construction projects, including responsibility for both cost and schedule.
  • Strong technical knowledge in substations, transmission lines, or networks/telecommunications.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to collaborate across a wide range of stakeholders including clients, contractors, and public agencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to travel to project sites within a 1–3 hour radius of the reporting location.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP certification is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage 10–20 projects from inception to completion.
  • Review initial scopes and collaborate with Engineering and Client stakeholders to develop detailed project work plans.
  • Create outage requests and sequenced work plans with SMEs and Client contractor partners.
  • Support Engineering in the procurement of major and minor material equipment.
  • Coordinate both environmental and non-environmental permitting reviews and submissions.
  • Develop RFP packages for construction bids, including written scopes of work, baseline schedules, and permitting documents.
  • Evaluate contractor bids and provide recommendations for award to the Client.
  • Lead pre-construction and ongoing project progress meetings.
  • Monitor and drive schedule and project milestones during construction—frequently on-site.
  • Oversee pre-energization tasks and final closeout activities upon project completion.
  • Build strong relationships with construction teams through consistent on-site presence and regular communication.
  • Collaborate with the Scheduler to maintain and update detailed P6 project schedules.
  • Manage and take ownership of project budgets and monthly financial forecasts.
  • Track monthly accruals and update forecasts accordingly.
  • Utilize client-specific systems for financial reporting, contract management, and project documentation.
  • Provide regular updates to the Lead Project Manager and Client on construction status, financials, procurement, safety, environmental concerns, and other support needs.
  • Maintain clear communication between project sites, the project office, and client teams.
