The position involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas lines, meters, and regulators. The individual will be responsible for turning natural gas lines on and off as necessary and responding to customer requests for service, which includes connections, disconnections, and leak investigations. The role requires operating and maintaining heavy and specialized equipment and tools to dig and backfill ditches, as well as loading and unloading pipes, meter fittings, and other materials. Additionally, the employee will read meters and record consumption for billing purposes, disconnect delinquent accounts, and assist in providing barricades and channelization services at worksites in compliance with federal and state regulations and company standards. The position also entails assisting with the investigation and resolution of lost and unaccounted for natural gas, performing welding operations for the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas mains, service lines, meter guards, and regulator stations. The employee will plan, monitor, coordinate, and inspect the work of contractor crews to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Compliance-related tasks such as leak surveys, cathodic protection, and odorization may also be performed. The role requires responsiveness to natural gas and other emergencies, and the completion and maintenance of accurate records and reports to comply with company and regulatory requirements. Other responsibilities may include holding stand-by duty, working shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call-outs, and occasionally extensive hours. The employee will be subject to reporting outside the regular work area and must identify, address, and report safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion. The safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment is also a critical aspect of the job. Familiarity with the contents of the Safety Manual and involvement in creating and maintaining a safe working environment is essential, along with the completion of all required safety training.
