About The Position

Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill an Apprentice Lineman 1st-4th Year or Journey Worker position for our Roswell, NM location. As an apprentice lineman you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States. Summary Position will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations. Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.

Requirements

• Must have a High School diploma or GED.
• Must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date.
• Must have successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment.
• Must be totally committed to safety, quality work, and customer service.
• Must be able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs.
• Must be mentally competent, able to communicate, and able to comprehend instructions.
• Must exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others.
• Must be of adequate physical stature to lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs.
• Must be able to climb wood poles up to 100' tall and perform aerial work in a safety belt.
• Must pass the federal DOT physical examination.
• Must reside within 20 miles of the Roswell Service Center.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility line crew.
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
• High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain, and operate high voltage distribution and transmission lines.
• Support maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.
• Attend 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year apprentice schools.
• Respond to after hour and weekend call outs.
• Perform all aspects of electric distribution overhead and underground construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
