About The Position

The Distribution Inspector is to inspect and ensure that all construction activities are performed within a client required project scope of work (SOW), specifications, procedures, codes, standards, and safety requirements. This position requires constant communication in a high paced environment while contractors are working in restricted space and ROW areas within public and private property. Accurate and detailed communication is a must in this position and will be utilized daily for record keeping and progress tracking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, 2-5 years’ experience in gas distribution, polyethylene pipe fusion, meter sets, mainline installation, knowledge of underground locating, and HDD process.
  • The minimum qualifications considered include field experience in distribution and regulations in the natural gas.
  • Should have a fundamental understanding of distribution standards, codes and construction methods, as well as ICC (Illinois Commerce Commission) safety requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to read, document clearly and interpret the client standards and procedures to others if need be.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work activities are performed in a safe and professional manner within the companies Health and Safety handbook.
  • Document and submit daily reporting and forms of all construction activities daily to the Construction Manager and/or Lead.
  • Maintain daily records to support all installation activities, construction as-built and completion paperwork.
  • Assist field engineers with as-built documentation and redlines.
  • Responsible for tracking of all materials and equipment used for pipeline and distribution construction (as-builts).
  • Ensure compliance with all project specific environmental requirements, land owner stipulations and construction requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all city, county, state and other agency permits.
  • Communicate effectively with outside agency onsite inspectors, contractor personnel and client personnel working on various aspects of construction.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with property owners and general public directly affected by project.
  • Communicate effectively with project team during course of construction on a daily basis. Level of communication may vary depending on nature and size of the project.
  • Inform construction manager or lead inspector immediately of any safety accidents or concerns, construction deviations or any problems.
