About The Position

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an experienced Distribution Engineer for our Baton Rouge, LA office. Be involved in projects with our Power and Energy Sector and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. Your Impact The qualified candidate should be familiar with the design and operation of utility electrical systems which they can apply their knowledge for developing new designs The ability to apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop the most complete and competent design Perform quality reviews of project deliverables Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are

Requirements

  • A BSEE, BSEET, BSME or BSCE degree, from an ABET accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Three (3) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)
  • The qualified candidate should be experienced with utility standards, joint facilities design, compatible units, and construction package development
  • Prior experience working closely with an electric utility or electric co-op
  • Familiarity with distribution design software, both overhead and underground, the National Electric Safety Code, and utility best practices
  • Strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.) or ability to achieve P.E. within six (6) months of hire date
  • Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS); GE Smallworld, ArcFM, DDS etc.
  • The ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Travel should be expected
