We are seeking a Distribution Engineer – Planning & Protection to support electric distribution engineering programs for major utility clients. This role focuses on circuit evaluation, distribution system modeling, overcurrent protection, arc flash assessment, and system reliability improvements. Ideal candidates bring hands-on experience with distribution protective devices, fusing and circuit tie development, planning studies, and industry-standard analysis tools. In this role, you will evaluate existing distribution circuits, perform planning and protection studies, and recommend protective device settings and system improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and operational performance while balancing economic considerations.

  • Perform circuit planning and protection studies, including circuit evaluation, load allocation, load flow, and fault analysis
  • Model and analyze distribution systems using CYME / CYMDIST, CYMTCC, and WindMil
  • Develop, review, and recommend overcurrent protection schemes and protective device coordination
  • Design and evaluate fusing strategies and circuit tie configurations to improve system reliability
  • Apply protective system design principles for circuit breakers, reclosers, fuses, and sectionalizers
  • Assess and help mitigate arc flash hazards on distribution systems
  • Recommend engineering improvements aligned with safety, reliability, and cost objectives
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and engineering recommendations for internal teams and utility clients
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, designers, and stakeholders to support project execution
  • Support additional duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience in distribution planning, circuit protection, or electric distribution engineering
  • Hands-on experience with CYME (including CYMDIST/CYMTCC) and/or WindMil
  • Experience with circuit evaluation, circuit tie development, and system reliability improvements
  • Strong understanding of distribution protective devices and coordination concepts
  • Familiarity with protective system design principles and distribution planning methodologies
  • Experience performing or supporting arc flash hazard analysis on distribution systems
  • Ability to evaluate engineering tradeoffs and make sound, defensible recommendations
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required
  • Ability to work during core work hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday-Friday – occasional weekend work may be required as duties demand
