Distribution Engineer I Position Overview This is an exempt entry level Distribution Engineer position performing electrical and civil engineering duties for the T&D Engineering Department of the Grand River Dam Authority as assigned by the Sr. Manager, T&D Engineering.

  • Develop basic engineering design for projects: Generates/interprets models, plan and profile diagrams, detail drawings and material lists for electrical power distribution systems in overhead and underground facilities.
  • Coordinates the creation of scopes of work for engineering and construction contractors.
  • Perform electrical analysis for voltage drop, fault current, power factor, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Perform physical analysis for power line sag and stress in a timely manner.
  • Develop data sheets and specifications for equipment.
  • Supports the bidding process for engineering and construction services.
  • Assists more senior engineers in work pertaining to design of the distribution system, including checkout of new facilities, engineering support to technicians and modifications to improve existing high voltage lines.
  • Basic project management.
  • Develops positive communication and productive relationships with fellow employees, industry contacts and customers.
  • Performs engineering analysis, calculations, design, studies, and other duties associated with maintaining, constructing, and operating electrical power distribution line facilities.
  • Creates specifications; prepares bid documents; evaluates bids received; prepares and presents reports and recommendations as required for purchase of materials, equipment, services, and miscellaneous items associated with high electrical power distribution lines and other assigned projects.
  • After-hours work may be required under system emergency or storm conditions.
  • Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel, Word, and other Office 365 products.
  • Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Must be comfortable giving verbal presentations before groups.
  • Has a grasp of concepts such as: structural design, foundation design, grading design, geotechnical engineering analysis, statics, thermodynamics & electromagnetic fields.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering from an accredited college or university is required, a power emphasis is preferred.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license, or the ability to convert within 30 days for those with an out of state driver’s license that are an Oklahoma resident.
  • Engineer Intern status in Oklahoma.
  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs, crawl, work from ladders and elevated platforms.
  • Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis.
  • Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail.
  • Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.
  • Additional courses or practical experience in electrical power line design, systems or circuit analysis, computer programming, and project and facility management are desirable.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and registration as an EI in Oklahoma is preferred.
