The Distribution Electrician II or III position at Austin Energy is a critical role responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of smart grid equipment and power delivery systems. This position ensures the reliability of the electric distribution network, reduces customer outages, and enhances power quality. The role requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License and involves working as part of a team to maintain essential services during emergencies and adverse weather conditions.

  • Install and maintain smart grid equipment such as voltage regulators, reclosers, capacitor banks, ATO's, Vista gear, and Trip savers.
  • Perform maintenance on the power delivery system to reduce customer outages and improve power quality.
  • Execute a distribution maintenance program to ensure timely and effective restoration of service during outages.
  • Troubleshoot complex voltage problems and perform all distribution phases of power line work.
  • Operate smart grid equipment including remote controlled switches and gear.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • For Distribution Electrician II: Two (2) years of experience in the electric utility field as a Distribution, Network, or Transmission lineworker.
  • For Distribution Electrician III: Four (4) years of experience in the electric utility field as a Distribution, Network, or Transmission lineworker.
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or ability to acquire it within 120 days of employment.
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Experience with the construction, operation, and troubleshooting of voltage regulators, reclosers, capacitors, ATO's, Vista Gear, and Trip Savers.
  • Experience with system circuit switching and balancing of distribution circuits.
