About The Position

As a Distribution Designer, you will independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers. The majority of the work involves overhead systems. You will be responsible for reviewing client-provided work, assessing requirements, and designing using Open Utilities. Field work will involve capturing photos and measurements, which will be used to create final designs. Depending on the availability of support, you might conduct your own field work, though less field work will be required as the fielding team is established. Field work locations are specified under the work environment section.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Power Distribution Design, and Bill of Materials.
  • Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, Microstation.
  • Knowledge of NESC codes and National Electric Safety Codes.
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or an associate degree in design.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with utility industry or power grid courses.
  • Internships or co-ops with major utility companies like Consumers Energy, DTE, Duke Energy.
  • Experience with Quality Control or Quality Assurance work.
  • Ability to train new employees and write process standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.
  • Conduct field work, capturing photos and measurements for design creation.
  • Complete designs using Open Utilities and industry-specific design software.
  • Perform energy analysis to ensure selected materials meet site requirements.
  • Build a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered into SAP/Material Tracking Software.
  • Assist with permits for utility lines and manage revisions with Quality Control.
  • Communicate frequently via e-mail, phone, and teams with clients.
  • Utilize software such as Poleforman, PLA/Pole Loading Analysis for structural analysis.
