About The Position

TRC is hiring a Distribution Designer and this position will be working within our Power Distribution Engineering team and a part of our growing Power Sector. This role involves performing detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates. The position requires interaction with a variety of individuals including engineers and experienced distribution system designers, and a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices. The designer will maintain production and quality of projects, prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, and perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. The role also includes data collection and communication responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma; Associate degree in electrical, civil or mechanical engineering or similar discipline preferred.
  • Entry level with an Associate's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; 1+ years Electric Utility or telecommunications field experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications desired.
  • AutoCAD or similar programs preferred.
  • Proficient use of engineering software preferred.
  • Clear and Valid Driver's license is required.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Electric Utility or telecommunications field.
  • Familiarity with engineering software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems.
  • Prepare field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates.
  • Interact with engineers and experienced distribution system designers.
  • Acquire knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and engineering standards.
  • Maintain production and quality of projects, including field data and engineering analysis.
  • Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings and construction drawing packages.
  • Perform field technical services for inspection and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
  • Collect field data using electronic devices for database input.
  • Develop knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.
  • Operate equipment to take measurements and perform inspections.
  • Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations.
  • Communicate well in writing and maintain proper ethics in communications.
  • Keep supervisor and coworkers informed and share accurate information.
