About The Position

The Quality Control ATL will be part of the produce buying team and report to the head produce buyer. The Quality Control ATL will oversee the QC team and will be accountable for ensuring that we are consistently receiving and delivering only the highest quality produce in our marketplace.

Requirements

  • Ability to mentor and supervise others successfully.
  • Produce receiving, wholesale or retail experience (prior Whole Foods experience preferred).
  • An eye for quality and a commitment to achieving excellence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - both written and verbal.
  • Comfort with computers and inventory/ordering systems (experience with Orderlink, PeopleSoft and EXE a plus).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (this location operates nearly 24/7 365 days per year)
  • Proven ability to be a team player with a strong work ethic and the ability to lead by example.
  • A passion for produce.
  • The ability to stand for majority of an 8-hour workday in a cold, wet environment.
  • Able to lift 40+ pounds above your head frequently. Able to lift loads of up 50 pounds unassisted. Occasionally may lift loads of 70 pounds. (infrequently lifting cases up to 100 lbs).

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and supervise QC team members.
  • Ensure QC team is following through with all daily tasks and responsibilities.
  • Visit stores to see quality at store level and build relationships with PTL's and buyers.
  • Ensure accurate quality and condition descriptions and percentages on problem arrivals are being reported to shippers and WFP.
  • Train new QC team members, and make sure they acquire all the skills and have all the tools to become successful QC team members.
  • Ensure loads are being accurately received and proper receiving protocol is being followed to maintain proper rotation and thorough documentation.
  • Assist and oversee the inspection of all inbound product at receiving for quality issues, help to ensure that product ordered is product delivered.
  • Assist and oversee the communication with national commodity buyers and the order management team to resolve problem arrivals including:
  • Reporting quality issues.
  • Monitoring protection, tracking and reporting losses.
  • Work and strengthen relationships with produce leadership at store level to maintain quality standards and remove poor quality product form the distribution chain.
  • Assist and oversee product in coolers on a regular schedule and use reporting tools to identify aged, dated and poor-quality products in warehouse.
  • Assist in maintaining current vendor OG and HACCP certification files.
  • Come up with creative and innovative ideas and solutions to take our QC program to the next level.
