Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor of Science in biology or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in the medical field and/or laboratory preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills and high level of attention to detail in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Visual acuity (including color discrimination) and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • May have exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
  • May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents, handle live human specimens, tissues, and bodily fluid.

Responsibilities

  • Scans slides into the LIS and accurately matches slides with paperwork generated by the LIS.
  • Maintains pathologist workload by accurately balancing jar counts within the LIS.
  • Monitors and ensures that the most up-to-date pathologist vacation calendar and pathologist licensing report are readily available at each station.
  • Delivers all slides to pathologist in a timely manner.
  • E-mails client services of pending discrepancy cases in distribution.
  • Sorts and delivers all slides received from the IHC department in a timely manner.
  • Receives, verifies, unpacks, and stores supplies in designated work areas within distribution.
  • Communicates when supplies are needed in distribution.
  • Is aware and knowledgeable of sendoff rules when sending cases offsite to other facilities.
  • Notifies other distribution employees of special requests from multiple departments.
  • Documents all quality issues within daily distribution worksheet and communicates any quality issue that may arise.
  • Communicates necessary information to PA's and/or Accessioning leads when discrepancies arise.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the company.
  • Reports all concerns of test quality and/or patient or employee safety to a Supervisor or Safety Officer.
