About The Position

As a Distribution and Collection Specialist, you'll help our Raw Water Operations team by safely operating, inspecting, and maintaining our Local Water Collection System and associated infrastructure around the Pikes Peak Region. The work that you do will ensure our community's continued access to some of the safest and cleanest drinking water in the United States. Please note that our Raw Water Operations team is provides critical and essential operations for Colorado Springs, and the successful candidate will need to be comfortable with operating on a flexible working schedule.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with operating and maintaining water systems
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment, vehicles, and hand tools
  • Ability to work in remote locations
  • Exerts 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10-20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Positions in this class typically require exposure in all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Water Distribution I and II license is valued
  • Basic knowledge of hydrology principles
  • Experience in groundskeeping is valued

Responsibilities

  • Performing operational flow changes on raw water systems (e.g., diversions, intakes, pipelines)
  • Providing relief operations on our watersheds (e.g., reservoir levels, creek/stream flows, piezometers, seep weirs, pipelines)
  • Coordinating system changes to comply with state and federal regulations (water quality, water rights, and public safety)
  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on reservoir dams - and meeting dam inspection schedules and criteria
