About The Position
Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time. Open Connect (OC) is a critical group within Netflix that builds and manages a content delivery network (CDN) that delivers all of Netflix’s streaming video. In addition to streaming video, we work on projects within Netflix that leverage physical infrastructure. According to a 2023 Sandvine report, data delivered by Open Connect accounts for approximately 15% of all downstream traffic volume across the entire internet. All of this traffic is delivered by our edge cache servers. The Geo and Network Intelligence (GNI) team within Open Connect focuses on mapping devices to real-world locations via IP Geolocation and leveraging network measurement and insights to deliver business value to our partners across the company. GNI is the home for Probnik – our network measurement framework – and the Fast.com speed test. We spend our time thinking about stuff like this: How does what we see in the network world map to behavior and locality in the real world? How can we leverage network insights to improve or protect the business? How can we gather more precise insights about our members while protecting their privacy? How do network anomalies impact members and their streaming experience? How do you detect, remediate, and monitor those anomalies at scale? Requirements
- 5+ years of software development with strong experience in Java.
- Experience building and operating business-critical systems at scale.
- Distributed Systems experience (e.g., building stateful & stateless systems, experience with Cassandra, Kafka, etc).
