About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Office of Information Technology. The mission of the Office of Information Technology at the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that support the department's operations and strategic goals. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. This position is responsible for providing support for computer systems at multiple sites, as part of the Department’s Central Office. Staff responsibilities below apply to most computer equipment (including personal computers, midrange minicomputers, and the large mainframe computer), telecommunications and related software. Responsible for planning, designing, implementing and troubleshooting the local client/architecture including connecting personal computers to the local area network, installing client software products and maintaining documentation related to the personal computers connected to the environment, and troubleshooting problems. Responsible for installation and support of network computers, including setup and loading of software; and performing the technical role of system manager including functions of backup, recovery, troubleshooting. Assists with providing general support of peripheral devices such as, but not limited to, monitors, docks, printers, USB drives and scanners. Provides support for software packages including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office 365 v2016, Adobe products, terminal emulation software, etc. Assists with the maintenance of inventory of user issued Information Technology (IT) equipment. Assists other IT units, such as Field Staff, with issues as needed. Provides after hours “on-call” support on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of distributed processing operations, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and software.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of computer systems analysis.
  • Ability to process information logically and solve problems.
  • Ability to develop training programs related to distributed processing operations and procedures.
  • Ability to monitor and resolve problems with distributed computer systems components.
  • Ability to identify and define user task needs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex systems installations and upgrades.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work on call, including during times of emergencies or disasters.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in working in an IT environment,
  • Work experience in a corrections or secure experience.
  • Possess any technical certifications.
  • Experience with VoIP Systems.
  • Experience using any ticketing software for tracking technical work, such as Cherwell, Service Now, or other IT related ticketing systems.
