Position Summary : Fried Frank’s Restructuring Department handles complex, high-stakes distressed matters for premier clients. The Distressed Market Analyst will be instrumental in driving strategic growth for the department by identifying distressed market opportunities, analyzing potential targets, and supporting business development efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial markets, distressed assets, and corporate restructuring, along with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights. They will also have experience leveraging AI-enabled research platforms, market-monitoring tools, and data-automation workflows to enhance speed and accuracy of analysis is strongly preferred. An entrepreneurial spirit is essential to proactively identify opportunities, drive initiatives forward, and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a service-oriented, multiple-authorities environment; outstanding project management skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills plus exceptional interpersonal skills; projects strong image and presence that engenders confidence from Firm management and attorneys; works with a high level of energy, creativity and orientation towards value-add results; ability to work under pressure and maintain professional demeanor at all times.
  • Proven track record in conducting competitive research and business intelligence; demonstrated ability in client targeting and lead generation; ability to create targeted business development marketing materials, including printed and electronic collateral marketing pieces and successful RFP/RFQ and “pitch” packages.
  • Demonstrated experience and facility with information technology used in marketing professional services, including website, intranet, extranets, databases, knowledge management tools, presentation software, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Professional and InterAction strongly preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have experience with certain corporate and legal industry research tools.
  • All positions require punctuality and regular attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Useful skills include familiarity with financial modeling and excel modeling.
  • Experience with marketing-related databases preferred.
  • They will also have experience leveraging AI-enabled research platforms, market-monitoring tools, and data-automation workflows to enhance speed and accuracy of analysis is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market intelligence & client targeting Review and analyze banker lists and market alerts to identify active or potential restructuring targets.
  • Monitor distressed sector market trends to anticipate client opportunities.
  • Conduct preliminary due diligence and research on prospective clients or companies.
  • Prepare competitive analysis and benchmarking of peer firms and their engagements.
  • Use AI-assisted research tools to surface emerging patterns in distressed markets, automate news/filing monitoring, summarize financial disclosures, and generate rapid first-draft market snapshots.
  • Leverage AI platforms to synthesize large datasets into concise insights and identify early indicators of financial distress or transactional activity.
  • Work closely with internal teams to identify and vet prospects and determine viability Monitor firm clients for potential distressed opportunities.
  • Perform internal assessments of target opportunities, including work history, CRM searches and conflict checks.
  • Identify key relationship partners and propose outreach plans.
  • Develop recommendations for approach strategies tailored to specific targets.
  • Create and tailor experience decks, pitch materials, and case studies by matter type, industry sector, or company profile.
  • Support core team with talking points, market insights, and pitch preparation.
  • Use generative AI to draft outlines, synthesize research, identify relevant deal comparables, and tailor pitch content, while ensuring all materials meet firm quality standards.
  • Spearhead all business development and marketing activities for the Restructuring Department Identify and advance visibility efforts and opportunities for assigned practices, including conference sponsorships, speaking opportunities, thought leadership campaigns and events.
  • Manage all facets including strategy and follow up of the directories submission process.
  • Assist with identifying and completing award submissions.
  • Oversee maintenance of practice related information in proposal database and matter information database.
  • Maintain online reporting system tracking proposals/pitches, including relevant documents, and evaluate progress by client/prospect, industry and type of services proposed.
  • Work closely with attorneys on their individual business development goals, identifying and developing strategic priorities and executing business development plans, including identifying new business and visibility opportunities.
