About The Position

As a Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be a part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. You will work alongside our talented team of developers, machine learning experts, product managers and people leaders. Our Distinguished Engineers are leading experts in their domains, helping devise practical and reusable solutions to complex problems. You will drive innovation at multiple levels, helping optimize business outcomes while driving towards strong technology solutions. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization. We are a forward-leaning, highly technical group dedicated to pioneering innovative cryptographic solutions that protect every transaction and consumer interaction. Your work will directly influence and innovate the security features embedded in our physical and digital products. The Distinguished Engineer in Payments Cryptography will operate at the intersection of advanced cryptography, payment industry standards, and physical hardware. You will play a key role designing and implementing the cryptographic foundations that make our physical cards secure, from the moment they are manufactured to every point-of-sale interaction. Passionately track payment cryptography trends and proactively identify opportunities to develop innovative solutions for next-generation payment instruments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience with solution architecture or software engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience with architectural patterns (SOA), building APIs, microservices, event streams, and high throughput systems

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a Master's Degree in Software Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience of working with business leaders on the implications of architectural decisions
  • 4+ years building cloud native architectures, architecting enterprise applications on public cloud platforms and cloud ecosystems (AWS, GCP or Azure)
