About The Position

At CVS Health, we’re building a world of health around every consumer and surrounding ourselves with dedicated colleagues who are passionate about transforming health care. As the nation’s leading health solutions company, we reach millions of Americans through our local presence, digital channels and more than 300,000 purpose-driven colleagues – caring for people where, when and how they choose in a way that is uniquely more connected, more convenient and more compassionate. And we do it all with heart, each and every day. We are recruiting for a Distinguished Engineer specializing in Data Center Infrastructure and Hybrid Compute/Store Platforms. In this high-impact role, you will lead the architecture and design of cutting-edge data center compute, storage, BMaaS, and IaaS platforms that underpin our mission-critical healthcare and retail operations. This role demands a systems thinker who thrives in large-scale enterprise data center environments, prioritizes cohesive infrastructure resilience and operational excellence over individual technology deployments. You need to have a proven track record of building enterprise data center compute platforms from scratch. You'll drive the evolution of hybrid infrastructure spanning traditional virtualization and modern container orchestration while ensuring seamless workload management, automation at scale, and platform reliability across VMware vSphere, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and enterprise storage systems. You will serve as a thought leader and mentor for infrastructure teams, ensuring our data center compute strategy is robust, innovative, and aligned with evolving business objectives.

Requirements

  • 12+ years in enterprise data center compute and infrastructure with 8+ years in large-scale storage, virtualization, and container environments.
  • Proven experience building data center platforms and hybrid infrastructure from scratch (not just maintaining existing deployments).
  • Deep expertise in: IaaS Platform Design: Ground-up design of Infrastructure-as-a-Service platforms including multi-tenant resource provisioning APIs, self-service portals with quota management and ReBAC integration, automated infrastructure lifecycle management (provision/scale/terminate/decommission), chargeback and metering systems with cost allocation, intelligent resource scheduling algorithms across compute/storage/network, template catalogs and golden image management with versioning, network automation (VLAN/VXLAN provisioning, SDN integration), storage orchestration (block/file/object provisioning), identity federation (LDAP/AD/SAML/OAuth integration), workflow orchestration engines, comprehensive audit logging with compliance reporting, and API-driven infrastructure management with RESTful service interfaces.
  • Enterprise Storage Systems: SAN/NAS architectures, storage virtualization (i.e. Dell EMC PowerStore/PowerScale/PowerFlex, Pure Storage FlashArray, etc.), storage tiering strategies, data deduplication and compression, and storage performance optimization.
  • Kubernetes Core Platform: Container runtimes (containerd, CRI-O), CNI networking (Calico, Cilium), CSI storage integration, custom resource definitions (CRDs), operators, and multi-cluster management across data center environments.
  • OpenShift Enterprise Platform: OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), OpenShift Virtualization (CNV), Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, OpenShift Data Foundation, GitOps workflows, and enterprise container security frameworks.
  • OpenShift Virtualization (CNV) Specialization: KubeVirt integration and VM lifecycle management, live migration capabilities with zero-downtime workload movement, virtctl CLI operations and VM management automation, DataVolumes and CDI (Containerized Data Importer) for VM disk management, VM templates and golden images with version control, SR-IOV and GPU passthrough for high-performance workloads, hybrid workload orchestration mixing VMs and containers on unified platform, storage integration with OpenShift Data Foundation, network virtualization with OVN-Kubernetes, and VM backup/restore strategies integrated with enterprise data protection frameworks.
  • VMware vSphere Platform: vCenter Server architecture, ESXi hypervisor optimization, vSAN hyper-converged storage, NSX-T micro-segmentation and networking, and vRealize Suite (Automation, Operations, Log Insight).
  • Data Center Compute Infrastructure: Server hardware optimization, CPU and memory resource management, GPU integration for AI/ML workloads, bare-metal provisioning, iDRAC and IPMI/BMC management, and hardware lifecycle automation.
  • Infrastructure Automation & Orchestration: Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for configuration management, VMware vRealize Automation, Red Hat Satellite, infrastructure testing frameworks, GitOps and GitHub Actions workflows for infrastructure management.
  • Enterprise Networking: Data center switching (Cisco Nexus, Arista), software-defined networking (SDN), VLAN/VXLAN configurations, load balancing (F5, HAProxy), network security policies, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Storage Networking & Protocols: Fibre Channel SAN, iSCSI, NFS, SMB/CIFS, storage multipathing, zoning configurations, and storage network performance tuning.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Veeam Backup & Replication, Velero for Kubernetes, VMware vSphere Replication, storage snapshots, cross-site replication, and automated disaster recovery testing.
  • Monitoring & Performance Management: VMware vRealize Operations, Prometheus for Kubernetes monitoring, storage performance analytics, infrastructure capacity planning, and predictive maintenance frameworks.
  • Security & Compliance: Infrastructure security hardening, vulnerability management, compliance automation (SOX, HIPAA), identity and access management integration, and security incident response procedures.
  • Problem-solving mindset: Ability to architect resilient hybrid infrastructure platforms and deliver pragmatic solutions for complex enterprise data center challenges.
  • Leadership: Track record of mentoring infrastructure engineering teams and driving cross-functional alignment in complex data center modernization initiatives.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
