About The Position

The Distinguished Engineer at GEICO will lead the development and implementation of a multi-cloud Infrastructure as Code (IaC) strategy for a hybrid cloud environment. This role is crucial in building a robust, automated, and scalable infrastructure that integrates public and private cloud resources, enhancing customer experiences. The position requires a passion for IaC, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to mentoring others while driving technological transformation within the organization.

Requirements

• 12+ years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or related fields.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and managing infrastructure using IaC tools and methodologies.
• 6+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and private cloud technologies (OpenStack, VMware).
• 4+ years of experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
• Expert-level IaC skills with deep understanding and extensive experience with Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go or Python for scripting and automation.
• Understanding of Linux operating systems, system administration, shell scripting, and package management.
• Proven ability to design and manage infrastructure across multiple cloud environments.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in custom IaC provider design and implementation strategy.
• Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps principles and experience integrating security controls into IaC.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement a cloud-agnostic IaC framework using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar, ensuring seamless integration across AWS, Azure, GCP, and private cloud.
• Develop and champion IaC best practices, including modular design, version control, automated testing, and security considerations.
• Orchestrate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management through CI/CD pipelines, promoting automation and self-service capabilities.
• Collaborate closely with security, operations, development, networking, SD-WAN, and data center engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of IaC solutions.
• Partner with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to implement monitoring, alerting, and automation for infrastructure reliability and scalability.
• Champion IaC adoption across the organization, providing training and support to engineers.
• Contribute to the open-source IaC community and promote GEICO's thought leadership in cloud infrastructure automation.
