About The Position

Under the supervision of the dispensing provider, the Dispensing Technician supports outpatient medication dispensing at the clinic dispensary in accordance with all state and federal regulations and Nevada Health Centers policies and procedures. This role is responsible for processing prescriptions, maintaining inventory, and delivering excellent customer service to a diverse patient population, including individuals experiencing homelessness. The Dispensing Technician plays a critical role in supporting medication access and adherence for vulnerable populations through compassionate, patient-centered service. Additionally, this position includes responsibility for medication courier services, ensuring the safe, secure, and compliant transport of pharmaceuticals from assigned in-house pharmacy partners to the clinic for patient pick up. This includes maintaining proper chain of custody, adhering to medication handling requirements, and ensuring timely delivery to support continuity of care. This role will require travel for courier services, site support, training, and education. The Dispensing Technician is responsible for maintaining all required licensure and certifications. Requirements

  • Nevada State Pharmaceutical Technician License required
  • Valid Nevada driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to meet organizational driving requirements (including proof of insurance), as role includes medication courier responsibilities
  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1+ years’ experience in a pharmacy or related healthcare role
  • 1+ years’ experience in customer service

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certification (PTCB) preferred, if not certified upon hire, must take and pass exam within 12 months of hire.
  • Experience working with underserved or special populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy workflow, pharmacy software and EHR
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law and 340B regulations; ability to provide education on the 340B program for providers and medical assistance and optimize compliance
  • Skill in operating various types of office equipment, such as, calculator, printer/copier/fax, postage machine, and telephone system
  • Skill in operating PC utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA
  • Ability to read prescriptions and drug labels, including fine print
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as sliding fees, discounts, proportions and percentages
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to special population groups as defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, gender, etc.
  • Ability to work all shifts, including evenings and weekends, and work up to 40 hours per week
  • Ability to travel to visit remote sites and to attend off-site training and education.
  • Ability to safely transport medications while maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for inventory tracking, transport logs, and reconciliation processes.
  • Ability to work independently while managing time-sensitive responsibilities such as medication delivery schedules.
  • Demonstrates empathy, professionalism, and adaptability when working with vulnerable populations in dynamic environments.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with Federal and State dispensary regulations (i.e., 340B, BOP, CMS) and NVHC Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepares prescription orders for the dispensing provider to dispense by ensuring correct medication is pulled, data entry, calculating quantities, day supply and directions are all accurate
  • Assists the dispensing provider on maintaining an inventory that meets the demand. Prepares dispensing order for dispensing provider approval. Conducts monthly and quarterly inventory counts, pulls out-dates or over-stock returns.
  • Monitors dispensary inventory cost and works with Informatics Pharmacist and Operations Logistics Specialist to request alternative NDC.
  • Collaborates with Informatics Pharmacist to ensure pricing and medications are loaded into pharmacy software accurately.
  • Ensure all Nevada State Board of Pharmacy requirements for clinic dispensary are followed.
  • Ensure the dispensary remains clean and organized.
  • Ensures dispensary compliance with patient confidentiality and HIPAA.
  • Monitors refrigerator and room temperatures and understands clinic vaccine and drug management procedures
  • Deliver quality customer service to patients, responding to inquiries, questions or requests, and referring them to the dispensing provider for medical information
  • Coordinates and performs secure transport of medications from designated in-house pharmacy partners to clinic locations, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and organizational regulations (including chain of custody and storage requirements).
  • Maintains proper documentation of medication transport, including logs, receipts, and inventory reconciliation upon delivery.
  • Ensures medications are transported under appropriate conditions (e.g., temperature control, security protocols) to maintain drug integrity and patient safety.
  • Collaborates with the dispensing provider, care teams, and pharmacy to prioritize timely medication availability for patients, including urgent and discharge-related prescriptions.
  • Provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive service to patients, recognizing the unique needs of unhoused and vulnerable populations.
  • Assists in coordinating medication distribution efforts aligned with outreach programs, patient initiatives, and campus-based care models, as applicable.
  • Reports any discrepancies, delays, or concerns related to medication transport or inventory to the dispensing provider, practice manager, operations logistics specialist and pharmacy immediately
  • Ensures dispensary opening and end of day procedures are completed daily.
