About The Position

At State of the Heart Recovery, the Dispensing Nurse plays a critical role in supporting clients receiving medication-assisted treatment through our Opioid Treatment Program. This position is responsible for the safe, accurate, and compassionate dispensing of methadone and other approved medications, monitoring client response, and maintaining complete and compliant medical documentation. The Dispensing Nurse works collaboratively with the Medical Director, Physician, and Clinical Program Director to ensure medication protocols are followed, regulatory requirements are met, and clients receive respectful, professional care. This role requires strong attention to detail, comfort with electronic health record systems, and a commitment to confidentiality and patient safety.

Requirements

  • Current licensure in the State of New Mexico as a Registered Nurse.
  • Strong documentation, typing, and data entry skills; ten-key experience preferred.
  • Willingness to train in State of the Heart Recovery’s Electronic Health Record and medication management systems.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and strict confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with medical and clinical teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or medical clinic settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense methadone and other prescribed medications in accordance with physician orders and clinic policies.
  • Monitor clients for treatment response, including signs of withdrawal, intoxication, or adverse reactions, and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Perform required patient assessments and document patient condition as appropriate.
  • Accurately document dosing, assessments, and clinical interactions in the Electronic Health Record and Methasoft system.
  • Maintain accurate counts, reconciliation, and secure storage of controlled substances in compliance with DEA and State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant medication dispensing area.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, Physician, and Clinical Program Director to support coordinated medical care.
  • Participate in required staff training, quality improvement activities, and program meetings.
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times.
  • Adapt to clinic schedules, dosing windows, and patient care needs.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned to support medical operations.
