About The Position

Take 911calls, emergency and non-emergency calls to provide help to the public. Ensure appropriate resources are sent the correct way to each patient. Train new Dispatchers.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc.
  • Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
  • Dispatch: Emergency Telecommunicator, Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, First Responder Certified, CPR Certified.
  • CTO: All of the above, Certified Training Officer Certification
  • Intermediate: Alphanumeric Data Entry, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing
  • Basic: 10-Key, Contact Management, Database, Presentation/PowerPoint
  • Ability to sit, talk or hear.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; color vision; and peripheral vision.

Responsibilities

  • Take 911 calls.
  • Dispatch ambulances/Fire Departments.
  • Post ambulances accordingly.
  • Update information in CAD.
  • Take non-emergency transfers.
  • Notify appropriate supervisors of long distance transfers.
  • Notify DEM and officers of large events.
  • Work with surrounding agencies.
  • Compile training materials for updates and new hires.
  • Keep track of payroll, checking staff in and out.
  • Assist Captains with staffing issues.
  • Keep track of unit locations.
  • Clean Dispatch daily.
  • Organize all paperwork for billing.
  • Assist billing office with phone calls and facilities.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
