About The Position

The position involves responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information, providing dispatch and communication support services for police, fire, emergency, and related services. The role includes receiving and responding to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints, as well as performing technical work in the use of communications equipment. Key responsibilities include dispatch operations, where the individual evaluates, prioritizes, and relays information for incoming calls, dispatches necessary personnel and equipment, and maintains communication logs. The position also involves records management, maintaining records for storage, retention, retrieval, and purging according to established methods and procedures. Employees are expected to meet ten core competencies to fulfill the mission of the City of Riverton.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Some knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City.
  • Ability to learn the operation of communication equipment and modern office practices.
  • Ability to react effectively in emergency and stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy and Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
  • Ability to be bonded.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, evaluates, prioritizes, and relays information for incoming emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Dispatches necessary personnel and equipment, referring difficult calls to a supervisor.
  • Receives and transmits radio messages to and from field units and other agencies.
  • Acts as a reference source and broadcasts information to field units.
  • Monitors security and fire alarm panels and takes action according to procedures.
  • Maintains radio communications log and tracks personnel and equipment locations.
  • Assists in training new personnel and maintains proficiency in communications equipment.
  • Operates teletype as necessary and acts as cashier or notary when required.
  • Maintains records for storage, retention, retrieval, and purging.
