About The Position

The Dispatcher/Scheduler is responsible for ensuring all work assignments are assigned to the appropriate drivers and vehicles to ensure clients/passengers receive the required service. Will be required to interact in a friendly and courteous manner with the division employees, other county divisions and clients of the transportation service. This position is the primary contact for consumers who are scheduling and/or inquiring about our services as well as the staff members on the road supplying services. The Dispatcher/Scheduler is designated as essential to the division and required to assist in meeting the operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of transportation experience in an agency involved in the delivery of transportation services.
  • Ability to communicate with staff, passengers, and law enforcement agencies in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and work skills given that this position has daily interaction with representatives of the general public, county divisions, private agencies, and private non-profit agencies.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain an effective professional relationship with our diverse passenger clientele and to enforce county policies regarding the safe and efficient transportation of passengers.
  • Knowledge and skill with computer programs (Windows, MS Office, Word, Excel, and Access), computerized scheduling and use of GPS reporting to assist in driver reassignments based on current locational information.
  • Ability to learn County specific computer programs necessary for the administration, billing and posting of all grants and contracts managed by the Division and the Divisions payroll.
  • Incumbents must complete and pass the Community Transportation Associations Passenger Assistance Safety & Sensitivity (PASS) course and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission approved Defensive Driving Course (DDC) and must be able to retain certification.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle onboard camera systems, including the maintenance, formatting, and retention of SD memory cards at direction of management.
  • This position requires possession and retention of a valid New Jersey driver's license (NJSA 39:3) as needed and/or assist in the provision of Transportation services.

  • Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) is preferred.
  • NJ MVC issued CDL with 'P' endorsement is preferred.
  • Knowledge of County policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties assigned by the Transportation Director and/or management staff to ensure that the day-to-day dispatching and assignment functions are performed in a professional, timely and courteous manner.
  • Must be comfortable using two-way radio, mobile data terminals and other transit-oriented technologies.
  • Must be able to use the divisions current computerized scheduling and dispatching program.
  • Responsible for redistributing assignments to available road staff, when necessary, this will require significant understanding of county geography and workflow for existing driver resources.
  • Performs client intake, scheduling, and reassignment functions as necessary for continuous operation of the division to meet passenger demand.
  • Interacts daily with vehicle operators, passengers, and residents regarding transportation services, as well as the county Office on Aging pertaining to issues of delivery of home delivered meals.
  • Fields and addresses basic service complaints, forwards critical complaints to Transportation Director and/or management staff.
  • This position is primary contact for road staff in emergency situations, such as vehicle accidents and/or passenger incidents.
  • Must work with the vehicle maintenance division to ensure that the division has sufficient vehicles to perform daily operations and to perform emergency maintenance requests in case of vehicle breakdowns.
  • Follows and enforces all safety standards of the division.
  • Must be comfortable working alone and with minimal supervision on a daily basis.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by Community Transit Manager, Business Manager, Transportation Director, Assistant Transportation Director, or the Director of Public Works.

Benefits

  • $52,000-$54,000 salary range.
  • Full-time position.
  • Regular working hours from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
