About The Position

The Senior Power Dispatcher - PDO serves as a Transmission Operator with full authority and responsibility for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of SRP's power delivery system. This role demands deep expertise in interconnected power systems, proficiency with advanced technical tools, and strong collaboration across utilities, customers, and internal departments. The position is critical to maintaining compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and SRP Operating Practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus completion of an approved apprenticeship or formal training in Power Plant Operations, Real-Time Energy Trading, Transmission Scheduling, Power System Operation, or Reliability Coordination.
  • OR a bachelor's degree in a related technical or business discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Must pass the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatcher (SOPD II) aptitude test during the pre-employment process.
  • Must obtain and maintain NERC Certification within six months of hire.
  • In-depth knowledge of power delivery systems, substations, relay and alarm systems.
  • Proficiency in specialized computer applications and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to respond quickly to system disturbances.
  • Effective communication, multitasking, and adaptability in high-pressure environments.
  • Familiarity with NERC and FERC standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Lineman, Electrician, Relay Technician, Control C&M Technician, Transmission Scheduler, Real-Time Power Trader, Power System Operator, Reliability Coordinator, or Generation Control Room Operator.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise full operational authority as a Transmission Operator in accordance with NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Direct real-time operations of the power delivery system, ensuring safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage switching operations, issue/release clearances, test permits, and hold tags per SRP safety protocols.
  • Lead system restoration efforts following disturbances or outages.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other NERC Functional Entities on real-time operational matters.
  • Respond to industrial customer inquiries and coordinate maintenance outages.
  • Serve as a mentor to new Power Dispatchers, fostering operational readiness and professional growth.
  • Develop and approve Operating Practices and contribute to dispatcher training as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Act as Project Manager for special assignments and initiatives.
