About the position

The Dispatcher NERC will efficiently coordinate and dispatch field personnel in a cost-effective manner and works with System Operators as deemed appropriate. Dispatches orders to appropriate personnel from a variety of groups or departments, using radio or electronic media. Plans and directs the sequence in which jobs are to be executed, and is responsible for the flow of work and meeting customer requirements. Monitors and directs activity of field personnel, regarding routine service requests. Analyzes data from many sources to determine dispatch location and priority. Make recommendations to supervision with regard to field resource needs. The Dispatcher will dispatch and perform clerical duties associated with work such as routine work, emergency work, meter orders, single phase and polyphase work, and other tasks deemed to be within their skills and abilities related to electric and customer work.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently coordinate and dispatch field personnel.
  • Dispatch orders to appropriate personnel using radio or electronic media.
  • Plan and direct the sequence of jobs to be executed.
  • Monitor and direct activity of field personnel regarding routine service requests.
  • Analyze data to determine dispatch location and priority.
  • Make recommendations to supervision regarding field resource needs.
  • Schedule and assign field resources to complete work in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate resources and priorities with various groups and departments.
  • Track, measure, and report performance to ensure business goals are met.
  • Answer, make, and process telephone calls from customers and employees.
  • Conduct correspondence and deal with the public as required.
  • Promote good customer relations, teamwork, and efficient operation.
  • Make decisions and solve problems related to work and customers.
  • Research and gather technical information for field personnel.
  • Investigate and compile information for effective reporting.
  • Compile, check, and verify business data for reports.
  • Handle Miss Utility requests and dispatch appropriate personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-secondary credits or equivalent experience.
  • Experience handling multiple tasks simultaneously under stressful conditions.
  • Experience coordinating with others and prioritizing activities or work assignments.
  • Experience conducting research and analyzing data from different sources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with geographical layout and characteristics of electric transmission and distribution lines.
  • Basic knowledge of distribution system equipment.
  • Experience performing dispatch work.
  • Experience communicating with customers.
  • Experience using Internet, PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, and/or e-mail software.
