About The Position

The Dispatcher is responsible for the assignment of motor vehicles and drivers for conveyance of freight or passengers, and compiles lists of available vehicles in support of the Naval Medical Readiness Logistic Command (NMRLC) Expeditionary Medical Systems (EXMEDS) mission requirements. The assignment of vehicles is determined by factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight or passenger requirements, and preference of user.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an equipment dispatcher.
  • Must be familiar with pertinent federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and precedents which affect the use of vehicles and equipment on federal and state roads.
  • Must be familiar with hazardous materials transport and vehicle regulations associated with transporting such material.
  • Must be able to follow and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions.
  • Must be able to read, write and clearly communicate work processes with leadership and peers.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must be able to work in an austere environment.
  • Must be dependable in meeting work schedules requirements.
  • Must be able to work light to moderate physical effort, including walking, standing, reaching, bending, and moving items.
  • May require lifting and carrying weight over 45 pounds.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the issuance of keys, record sheets, and driver credentials.
  • Records time of departure, destination, cargo, expected time of return and investigates overdue vehicles.
  • Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed or damaged merchandise.
  • Maintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses.
  • Establishes service or delivery routes, supervises loading and unloading.
  • Issues equipment to drivers, such as hand trucks, dollies, and blankets.
  • Directs activities of drivers, assigns helpers to drivers.
  • Works at vehicle distribution centers, assigns vehicles to customer agencies.
  • Performs vehicle dispatch functions for daily use of all Government provided NTVE and MHE in support of NMRLC Warehouse Operations.
