Under general supervision, responsible for activities related to dispatch services for uniformed security personnel and non security personnel. Monitor and operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), maintenance service requests, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) management, door access systems, communication systems, and fire systems.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of related call taking or dispatching experience, or operating a 2-way or multi-channel radio.
  • Knowledge of basic radio codes and operations of the dispatch console.
  • Knowledge of procedures involved in dispatching customer services.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures.
  • Knowledge of streets and highways in Austin/Travis county area.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication and listening skills.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to use two-way radios.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with City employees and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and Report Management System (RMS)
  • Experience working with Security Systems (Surveillance, Facility Access, Fire Systems, and Badging Systems)
  • Experience Using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and dispatches workers; work crews; equipment; or service vehicles to appropriate locations according to trouble calls received from facility service representatives and security personnel.
  • Schedules and loans out pool vehicles to authorized employees.
  • Initiate, enter and update “Calls For Service” into Computer Aided Dispatch/Computer System Emergency Notification System during emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Operate and monitor fire alarm system for department and external buildings.
  • Monitor security/emergency equipment/systems and closed circuit television monitors; Report breaches of security to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate/monitor multi-channel radio, audio/video, multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional alpha paging systems.
  • Records and maintains files and records of customer requests; work of services performed; lost and found management; expenses; inventory; and other dispatch information on appropriate forms or logs.
  • Confers with customers or other personnel to address questions; problems; and requests for service or equipment.
  • Enter and dispatch work order service requests.
  • Relays technical assistance; work orders; messages; and information to or from work crews, supervisors and field inspectors using telephones and two-way radios.
  • Prepares daily work log information for reports.
  • Determines types or amount of supplies needed and places orders, accordingly.
  • Coordinates emergency response including evacuation process.
