A Wyoming Highway Patrol Dispatcher I is the entry-level WHP dispatch personnel. Formal classroom and on-the-job training introduce this unique career field to successful candidates, providing basic knowledge, fundamentals, and procedures needed in this position. WHP dispatchers provide the vital communications link between the public and emergency services utilizing a two-way radio system and extensive computer operation. With an emphasis on officer safety, WHP dispatchers also ensure law enforcement officers receive the necessary assistance and backup. WHP dispatchers require excellent interpersonal skills, good memory retention, and the ability to calmly and accurately process information under pressure. Work involves rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
