Job Purpose: The Dishwasher performs designated work and cleaning routines for the Dining Department and is accountable to the Dining Manager. In the absence of Dining Manager, Dishwasher is accountable to the Cook.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; previous institutional dietary service experience preferred
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments
  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Basic numerical ability for recipe preparation and accurate measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals
  • Good motor coordination and manual dexterity to perform tasks such as food preparation, tray service, dish handling, equipment operation, and work area cleaning.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including during emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates patience, professionalism, and tolerance when interacting with staff, residents, and family members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned dietary service tasks using appropriate utensils, supplies, and equipment under the direction of the Dietary Manager.
  • Assist with meal service activities, including trayline preparation, tray delivery and removal, dining room service, beverage service, and between-meal nourishment.
  • Wash dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment; ensure proper cleaning, sanitation, and orderly storage.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen, dining, food storage, and supply areas according to facility schedules, including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with federal, state, and facility sanitation, infection control, and safety regulations.
  • Report equipment needs, safety hazards, maintenance issues, and unsanitary conditions to the supervisor promptly.
  • Follow established infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service education programs.
  • Perform duties efficiently to meet scheduled meal service timelines.
  • Comply with resident rights, facility policies, and all applicable regulations.
  • Complete other duties or special assignments as directed by the Dietary Manager
