About The Position

The position (K0243447) This position is non-supervisory. Are you passionate about working within a diverse population? Join our team as a Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS). The Kansas Department of Health and Environment's (KDHE) Bureau for Disease Control & Prevention (BDCP) has several DIS positions vacant across the state. Disease Intervention Specialists have been the backbone of public health for decades. DIS in Kansas are public health professionals who use contact tracing and case investigation to prevent and control infectious diseases like Syphilis and HIV/AIDS. As a DIS, you should possess certain skills such as, problem-solving skills, negotiation skills, investigative skills, and the ability to communicate and perform within a diverse population. This position supports the values of public health in Kansas by protecting and improving the health and environment for all Kansans. DIS Specialize in: Public health investigations, Case management and analysis, Provider and community engagement, and Outbreak detection and response.

Requirements

  • Disease Intervention Specialist Position High School /GED
  • Advance Disease Intervention Specialist Position High School /GED
  • LPN/RN Disease Intervention Specialist Position Nursing degree (college or technical)
  • Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • LPN/RN Disease Intervention Specialist Position License to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas at the time of hire.
  • Disease Intervention Specialist Position One or more years of relevant work experience demonstrating the application of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities necessary for the position. One year of experience in public health work related to disease prevention, health education, or investigation. Two years of other work experience providing client-centered service requiring advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate co-operation both among individuals and groups. A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social sciences, Biology, or other health-related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Advance Disease Intervention Specialist Position Disease Intervention Specialist qualifications. At least a year of experience working independently at the DIS level combined with accredited certification or other formal recognition of advanced technical knowledge and expertise.
  • LPN/RN Disease Intervention Specialist Position DIS-specific work experience must also include accredited certification or other formal recognition of advanced technical knowledge and expertise. At least one year of experience as an LPN/RN.
  • Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas. Applicants (including non-residents) who receive a formal job offer for a State job, are required to obtain a valid Tax Clearance within ten (10) days of the job offer. A Tax Clearance can be obtained through the Kansas Department of Revenue who reviews individual accounts for compliance with Kansas Tax Law.
