About the position

The Disease Intervention Specialist plays a crucial role in public health by providing professional and technical services aimed at the treatment, control, education, and prevention of HIV and STDs. This position involves direct interaction with clients, conducting epidemiological investigations, and ensuring that individuals receive the necessary medical care and education regarding sexually transmitted diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts epidemiological investigations, including interviewing positive HIV/STD cases and partner elicitation/contact tracing.
  • Educates clients on prevention and protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Completes case reports, epidemiologic report forms, and other required reporting.
  • Provides referral services for clients who test positive for HIV.
  • Conducts field visits to identify, locate, and notify clients of their positive test results and ensures proper medical care is received.
  • Educates providers and laboratories on reportable STDs and proper STD treatment.
  • Provides HIV/STD testing in both traditional and non-traditional settings.
  • Orders testing supplies and promotional items.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
