About The Position

Berry Street Yooralla's Community Access Services in the Wangaratta Area are seeking motivated individuals to join their dynamic Community Access Teams as Disability Support Workers. This casual role involves supporting children, teenagers, and adults with a disability to actively participate in their community and within their homes. The position offers opportunities for learning and development and flexible hours to accommodate personal commitments. As a Disability Support Worker, you will support adults with disability to engage in community activities, either one-on-one or in groups, mostly in the community and occasionally in their homes. Yooralla is Victoria’s most established disability service provider with over 100 years of experience, committed to diversity, inclusion, and equality, and encourages applications from all backgrounds, including people with disability, LGBTQIA+, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

Requirements

  • A positive approach, initiative and self-motivation
  • Willingness to be committed to empowering our clients to reach their goals, and to upholding quality and safeguards in your everyday work
  • Effective communication skills, and good English literacy to communicate well with our clients
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team
  • Willingness to support clients with personal care activities
  • Australian Driver Licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • The right to work in Australia
  • The ability to get a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate if you don’t already have one
  • Subject to NDIS Worker Screening Check

Nice To Haves

  • A Certificate IV in Disability
  • Relevant work experience
  • An interest in community services

Responsibilities

  • Support children, teenagers and adults with a disability to actively participate in their community and within their home
  • Support adults with disability to get out and about in the community
  • Support people one-on-one or in groups, mostly in the community, and occasionally in their homes
  • Support clients with working towards their goals
  • Support clients with a wide range of recreation and social activities
  • Support children and youth to participate in after school care and school holiday programs
  • Support children, youth and adults to attend a camp or to go on a holiday
  • Support clients with shopping, appointments and events
  • Engage clients in meaningful opportunities and relationships
  • Assist with daily living and personal care needs, including assistance with meal preparation, personal hygiene and mobility
