About The Position

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience working in a disability-related academic or clinical setting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as an effective team member.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, encompassing both oral and written communication abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Strong ability to understand and address the unique needs of college students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in interpreting a range of educational, psychological, and medical documentation.
  • Knowledge of disability law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504, and its practical application for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the Accessible Information Management (AIM) database.

Responsibilities

  • Provides ongoing service and case management to students with disabilities, including monitoring the effectiveness of accommodations and making referrals to relevant campus services.
  • Offers resources tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities, focusing on strategies specific to Texas State University.
  • Conducts meetings with students requesting accommodations, gathering and interpreting documentation provided by the student.
  • Assesses the impact of the student's disability on academic performance and campus engagement to determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Provides consultation and training to faculty and staff on accessibility issues and laws, serving as a knowledgeable resource for the accessibility needs of students with disabilities.
  • Participates in disability outreach and awareness events.
  • Assists in the development and/or review of office publications, policies, and procedures.
  • Represents the department in university, division, and departmental committees and task forces.
  • Stays updated on research and best practices concerning students with disabilities in higher education.
