About The Position

Head Start Birth-5 has an opening for a full-time Disabilities and Behavioral Health Specialist working 35 hours per week. This position is responsible for providing training, observing children, developing strategies, and assisting with disabilities and challenging behaviors. Develop, implement and maintain positive working relationships with area Local Education Agencies and Part C agencies to ensure high quality services for children with IEP/IFSP and/or behavioral health needs. Monitor IEP/IFSP information, developmental and social emotional screening results, and other data affecting disability and mental health services. Provide support and model strategies with participants, families, and staff with IEP/IFSP, Positive Support Plans, or Behavioral Management Plans. Presence at each Head Start facility is required frequently, on an as-needed basis, and/or as directed. This position will complete duties and responsibilities as they relate to the Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP Guidelines, and Head Start Birth-5 Forms and Procedures Manual.

Requirements

  • A graduate of an accredited college or university with at least an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, or correlated discipline or enrolled in an accredited college or university leading to an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, or correlated discipline is required.
  • Three or more years’ experience in early childhood education, special education, and/or mental health may be considered.
  • Must meet Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations, including Head Start Standards of Conduct, federal and state criminal history requirements, sex offender registry checks, drug screen, physical and complete an annual T.B. test.
