About The Position

DBSICS seeks a Director of Student Affairs with commitment, motivation, and experience to develop and implement strategies. The Director will develop, administer, and evaluate programs to enhance academic advising and student experience, provide direction to professional academic advisors, interact with other campus units, and provide support to the school’s administration, faculty, and students. The scope of work includes: Managing the undergraduate student academic advising unit in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences. Formulate policies and procedures for the student academic advising program. Develops the long-term organizational and strategic goals of the unit. Manage the finances and human resources for the office. Establish goals and policies to meet UCI and UC growth trends and targets, including population demographics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of common University and school specific computer application programs and knowledge of university and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Knowledge of UC and UCI policies and procedures and deadlines covering aspects of undergraduate student advising
  • Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes, or services, to make improvements.
  • Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions, and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning, and strong critical thinking and analyzing abilities.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuade others, and lead. Skill to work independently.
  • Possess strong organization skills to manage multiple and competing priorities and deadlines
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively. Effective oral and written skills to present information accurately and concisely.
  • Ability to use arithmetic methods to identify and use quantitative data for student advising purposes (GAP computations, percentages, rankings, etc.)
