PURPOSE Establishes and maintains Company truss (roof and floor) design standards and best practices that comply with building codes in all markets. Works with Company management to ensure all design activities support business plans and strategies.

  • Works directly with all design groups in the Company to implement and maintain consistent standards and practices.
  • Ensures all Designers (Truss Technicians) are using the latest approved design software companywide.
  • Maintains all design data bases and monitors design activities.
  • Works with Design Managers to source for new Designers as staffing needs dictate.
  • Works with Design Managers to train and develop new Designers. This includes developing the training materials and conducting the training.
  • Develops the training materials and conducts the training of Company Sales Representatives who sell our truss products.
  • Provides Vice President of Manufacturing with periodic reports of status of Company’s design groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) from a two-year college or technical school minimum. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ten years of truss design experience is required. Experience should include supervision of Designers.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write business reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. This job requires exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts ranging from basic business math to the technical math associated with truss design. This job requires exceptional mathematical skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with the systems and software used by the Company in managing the design function. Experience with PowerPoint software is necessary.
  • Wood Truss Council Level 3 Certification (or equivalent) is required.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to travel up to 40% of schedule.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license is preferred.
