About The Position

The Director of Test and Measurement Engineering (TME) will play a critical role in driving the TME strategy for the business to grow and deliver world-class engineering solutions in opto-mechanical products and test software solutions. This position requires a skilled ability to collaborate cross-functionally to achieve business objectives and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Leveraging deep expertise in precision and accuracy of measurements, test automation and process optimization for high-precision, complex optomechanical assemblies, you will develop and implement objectives to continuously improve resolutions and accuracies of measurements, while optimizing resources, in an environment with greater and greater product complexity. This is an onsite role based at our Irvine, California facility. In this role, you will report to the General Manager.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in STEM related discipline (advanced degree preferred), with a minimum of 10 years' experience in an engineering leadership role in optics, optomechanical, lasers, fiber optics, photonics, or related field
  • A proven ability to solve problems utilizing a balance of analytical and technical skills. Excellent project and resource management capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of presenting technical information up and down in the organization. Must be able to accurately communicate information and ideas so others will understand
  • Effective and thorough knowledge of product development and quality improvement tools (for example: PDP, FMEA, DfX, Poke-yoke, 8D)
  • Ability to inspire a culture focused on innovation, collaboration, quality and accountability. Develop and mentor engineers and managers

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with computer interfacing instruments and hardware communication protocols and test automation
  • Excellent understanding of extreme precision optical and mechanical drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, uncertainty budgets and ways to control them
  • Execution of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and, more generally, six-sigma principles

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development, implementation, and maintenance of measurement systems and test software solutions to automate the alignment, attachment, and test of precision optical components, optomechanical assemblies and laser systems
  • Develop and execute a multidisciplinary Test and Measurement Engineering (TME) strategy. Set objectives, guide initiatives, and build a premier TME team
  • Own the Measurement System Analysis methodology: align TME strategies with product design, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, quality, reliability engineering, and customer needs and strategies
  • Empower a subject matter expert team to ensure comprehensive understanding of optomechanical precision and accuracy throughout the product lifecycle
  • Collaborate with different teams to estimate project and product costs, including calculating the resources (equipment, materials, people) and labor needed for development, assembly, alignment, and testing. Optimize the return on investment considering the first pass yield and scrap rates when selecting test and measurement strategies
