POSITION SUMMARY: The Director, Corporate Taxes oversees and is directly responsible for the daily activities of the following functions of the tax department: tax compliance, accounting for income taxes, and investments in renewable tax credits. The Director, Corporate Taxes also actively participates in the tax planning function with the VP, Tax and/or other functional leaders throughout the organization, bringing together the necessary resources, either internal or external, to execute and implement various initiatives. This position is also responsible for the management and development of the tax group’s professional staff. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Directs the analysis and resolution of complex book/tax differences for a large, consolidated group, ensuring accurate reporting and documentation of tax positions. Participates in the quarterly and annual tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740, including documentation of internal controls, and effective communication with external auditors. Assists in the review of the in-house preparation of the federal, state, and local tax compliance, ensuring timely and accurate filing of all required tax returns Strategically oversees the Company's renewable tax credit investment portfolio, including structuring transactions, managing relationships with external legal advisors and developers, forecasting financial impacts, and communication with internal stakeholders. Builds and develops a high-performing tax team through effective leadership, coaching, and career development opportunities for staff, seniors, and managers Identifies and implements tax planning opportunities in collaboration with the VP of Tax, external advisors, and key business stakeholders to optimize the Company's tax position Represents the Company in tax audits and controversies, developing defense strategies and negotiating with tax authorities to achieve favorable outcomes Monitors tax legislation and regulatory developments to assess potential impacts on the Company and recommend appropriate responses Provides strategic tax guidance on corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and restructurings Delivers clear and concise communications on complex tax matters to senior management and non-tax professionals across the organization Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent. QUALIFICATIONS: Masters of Taxation and/or LLM preferred. 10 years of proven and progressive tax experience in a large accounting firm or corporate tax department of a Fortune 500 company. Certified Public Accountant preferred. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business. This position is a hybrid role based at Republic Service's headquarters in Phoenix, AZ. Hybrid is 4-days per week onsite, and 1-day remote. This position will not be eligible to be fully remote.
