May have profit and loss responsibility. Provide leadership and direction through senior managers and managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent work experience
  • 12 years of accounting experience in tax, accounting, or equivalent area (10 years with Master’s in Tax or Masters in Accounting with tax focus)
  • Management experience
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of tax law and concepts and/or accounting standards and principles to effectively apply to complex business transactions and structures
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to diverse audiences
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), on-line research software (RIA, Westlaw), applicable tax and/or accounting software systems

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, Masters in Tax or LLM
  • Experience in international taxation, partnership taxation or taxation of financial products

Responsibilities

  • Lead the department to achieve performance standards and support day-to-day operations of the tax function.
  • May authorize and/or approve tax returns, tax provisions and communicate with tax auditors.
  • Prepare/review written analyses of tax issues and tax positions to enhance the understanding of senior management and make recommendations supported by modeling the financial impact of tax planning opportunities.
  • Understand and communicate the tax treatment of complex transactions, processes and insurance products as required (federal, state, and foreign taxes).
  • Extensive tax research responsibilities.
  • Lead implementation of projects within tax department and, where appropriate, across departmental/divisional lines.
  • Work with internal/external contacts to ensure tax issues are resolved for the success of the company.
  • Participate in budget planning and overall expense management.
