Director, Synthetic Data - Data & AI Platform

About the position

As the Director of Synthetic Data at Visa, you will lead the development of advanced algorithms and frameworks for generating large-scale synthetic data. This role is pivotal in enhancing Visa's AI and machine learning capabilities, focusing on creating domain-specific models that ensure data privacy and compliance. You will provide strategic guidance and mentorship to Data Engineering teams while collaborating with various departments to integrate synthetic data into machine learning workflows. This position is hybrid, requiring in-office presence 2-3 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Creating advanced algorithms, techniques, and frameworks for generating large-scale synthetic data.
• Developing AI and GenAI models tailored for domain-specific synthetic data applications.
• Designing and implementing synthetic data generation processes to protect sensitive data.
• Deploying synthetic data models into test environments.
• Creating AI/ML models that integrate synthetic data into machine learning workflows.
• Providing leadership, mentorship, and management to Data Engineering teams.
• Delivering strategic guidance for Visa, its clients, partners, and the broader industry.
• Collaborating across the organization with teams such as Product, Applied AI, and Data Engineering.

Requirements

• 10 or more years of relevant work experience with a bachelor's degree or 8 years of relevant work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters/MBA/JD/MD) or 3 years of relevant work experience with a PhD.
• Master's or PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Expertise in AI programming languages and frameworks, such as Python, Java, R, and C++.
• Experience in the creation, acquisition, cleaning, and analysis of data used to generate models for detecting deepfakes in various formats.
• Experience and understanding of random sampling, data augmentation, and generative adversarial networks (GANs).
• A strong research background in AI and ML, evidenced by publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
• Familiarity with AI & ML platforms, tools and libraries, and comfort with adopting new technologies as they emerge.
• Proficiency in cloud-based AI solutions and big data technologies is highly desired.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and overseeing large-scale technology projects.
• Excellent communication skills with an ability for translating complex technical jargon into understandable language for non-technical stakeholders.
• A firm grasp of data governance and privacy regulations.
