About The Position

The Director of Surgical Services at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast is responsible for leading the perioperative team, ensuring safe patient care, and managing operations within the surgical services department. This role encompasses 24/7 oversight of surgical services, focusing on quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while fostering a positive work environment and advancing the customer experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state of practice required.
  • Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the perioperative team focusing on safe patient care and effective operations management.
  • Identify and implement solutions for real/potential problems affecting surgical services.
  • Participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees, providing ongoing communication.
  • Advance the customer experience in Surgical Services.
  • Coach subordinates through feedback and performance documentation.
  • Communicate departmental, organizational, and industry information to staff effectively.
  • Facilitate evidence-based employee engagement practices.
  • Build strong relationships and networks to achieve organizational goals.
  • Participate in employee and patient rounding, mentoring potential future leaders.
  • Enforce standards of care and develop processes for compliance measurement.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a surgical services program ensuring quality patient care.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies.
  • Oversee a performance improvement program evaluating critical aspects of care.
  • Ensure operational excellence and quality service delivery in accordance with policies and standards.
  • Follow hospital exposure control plans and enforce safe procedural site verification policies.
  • Monitor and respond to quality event reporting.
  • Support new program strategies and enhancements to expand patient services.
  • Develop and prioritize capital equipment requests and manage departmental finances.
  • Advance the growth agenda for Surgical Services and strive to be the OR of choice in the community.
  • Demonstrate a poised and confident demeanor that commands respect.
  • Develop strategic internal and external networks for collaboration.
  • Promote consistent positive patient interactions and adhere to the organization's code of conduct.
