About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Director of Student Engagement supports the College and the Division of Student Development Services by overseeing a broad range of functions related to recruitment and admissions, residency determination, registration, disability services, and student success for both Curriculum and Continuing Education/Workforce Development students. The Director provides and supervises holistic advising services that support students' academic, personal, and professional goals. Provides leadership, guidance, and daily operational support while exercising supervision over Student Engagement departmental staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major course work in guidance, counseling, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three to five years of student advising or admissions counseling experience in an educational setting.
  • Possession and ability to maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability and availability to work additional hours during peak processing periods, including evening and weekend hours for recruitment and community events.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, implement, and administer goals and objectives, as well as policies and procedures, for the College's Office of Student Engagement, including student admissions, registration, counseling, and recruitment; evaluate operations to ensure alignment with the College's mission and the needs of the student population.
  • Advise and assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provide guidance on available financial aid options to help students meet educational expenses.
  • Participate in the selection of assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training; evaluate employee performance; work with employees to correct deficiencies; and implement disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
  • Counsel and advise students regarding academic and career goals, program and graduation requirements; discuss testing needs; determine student interests and appropriate schedules; refer students to supportive agencies as necessary; and follow up on referrals.
  • Coordinate disability accommodations by receiving and processing appropriate medical records and provider evaluations of students' physical and/or psychological conditions; communicate accommodation notices to affected students and faculty.
  • Assist students with admissions activities; provide admissions and records information to students, staff, and the public as permitted by College policies; and communicate with prospective and current students regarding preregistration and registration opportunities.
  • Participate in external, community-facing engagement activities and events-comprising approximately 25% of the position's responsibilities-to promote the College and support student enrollment initiatives; participation in some weekend recruitment events is required.
  • Assist with preregistration and all registration activities; direct students to appropriate locations for testing, application, and registration processes; and assist with adding and dropping students from classes.
  • Collect data related to student support processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness; establish and monitor program evaluation systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum and Continuing Education/Workforce Development Registrars to ensure all admissions and registration processes are completed appropriately and in accordance with State Board Code.
  • Develop an annual recruitment plan with data points, goals, and associated outcomes; report on this plan to the Enrollment and Success Management Committee at least once each semester and to the Board of Trustees as requested.
  • Serve as the College's State Authorization Coordinator, including managing the College's State Authorization webpage, NC-SARA membership, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Assist in developing a marketing plan for recruitment and in preparing promotional and informational materials for distribution, including direct mail campaigns and internal and external publications.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of plans to increase Curriculum and Continuing Education/Workforce Development enrollment and improve student retention.
  • Attend training and professional development activities to stay abreast of regulatory changes.
  • Participate in a variety of college committees and institutional activities.
  • Assist with tasks as needed within the Student Development Services Division.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
