Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/innovative-medicine Purpose: This position is responsible for enabling execution excellence, operational discipline, organizational health, and strategic alignment across the Innovative Medicine Business Development organization as well as supporting in achievement of overall Externalization goals for the IM business. This role reports directly into the VP, Strategy & Operations, Externalizations Business Development.

Requirements

  • BA/BS minimum requirement, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant business experience (Strategy & Operations, Finance, or Business Development) required
  • Healthcare or Pharmaceutical experience is required
  • Experience in problem solving, execution, and juggling multiple priorities at once
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and ability to navigate matrix organizations.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication with experience briefing executive leadership.
  • Strategic mindset, attention to detail, and agility
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • (S&O) Lead and manage strategic business development initiatives to drive growth and help the BD team achieve business objectives.
  • Oversees the planning, execution, and management of operational tasks to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the BD team. This includes responsibility for the operating rhythm of the Business Development organization.
  • Champion rigorous standards with regard to consistent processes, and high‑quality preparation and outputs for core business development reporting and leadership meetings.
  • Develop (and deliver where appropriate) compelling content for high‑priority strategic reviews, and presentations including preparation of materials for recurring leadership forums.
  • Lead operational planning and coordination with partner functions for key BD events and industry engagements, including All‑Hands meetings, Town Halls, and major industry conferences.
  • Maintain oversight of ongoing BD transaction funnel and completed transactions.
  • Partner with Communications teams to create high-impact materials that support major initiatives and organizational storytelling / case studies.
  • Develop strong partnerships across the organization, including Finance, Legal, Commercial, and innovation‑focused teams, to drive alignment and support strategic outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships across teams to cultivate insights, support organizational effectiveness, and strengthen cross‑functional connectivity.
  • Oversee maintenance and continuous improvement of organizational capabilities and materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and relevance.
  • Support organizational health initiatives, including credo action plans and cultural programs, as a contributing team member.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses and strategic projects, including deployment of new technologies as needed.
  • Responsible for delivering yearly Royalty Optimization assessment on both an Income and Expense basis in conjunction with BD Finance colleagues.
  • Acts as deal lead for any royalty-based transactions that may result.
  • Provide general deal support for ongoing externalization efforts where appropriate such as CDAs, virtual data rooms, timelines, presentations.
  • May act as transactional lead for other Externalization transactions on an ad hoc basis.
  • Co-lead material preparation for Externalization and Divestitures and Externalization Operating Committee meetings along with functional partners.
