The Director, Category Management – Dialysis Machines & Medical Supplies is responsible for leading the end-to-end strategy, sourcing, and management of capital equipment and consumable supplies used in in-center dialysis treatment. This role develops multi-year category strategies, leads complex negotiations, manages vendor relationships, and ensures supply continuity, regulatory compliance, and value delivery across the dialysis enterprise. This leader partners with clinical, operational, biomedical engineering, finance, and executive teams to drive quality, cost efficiency, and innovation across the dialysis supply ecosystem.

  • Team Leadership Lead and develop category managers, sourcing analysts, and procurement specialists
  • Foster a culture of accountability, digital first, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Coach the team in advanced category management, supplier negotiation, and market intelligence capabilities.
  • Category Strategy & Planning Oversee development and execution long-range category strategies for dialysis machines, dialyzers, disposables, water/RO equipment, and treatment consumables.
  • Define category-level KPIs and performance dashboards aligned to cost, quality, continuity, and compliance.
  • Establish standardization strategies and product rationalization approaches across clinics.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Contracting Lead the sourcing lifecycle: RFI/RFP creation, supplier evaluation, financial modeling, total cost of ownership analysis, and award recommendations.
  • Negotiate complex contracts for capital equipment and medical supplies, including pricing, warranties, service levels, spare parts, maintenance, and risk provisions.
  • Partner with legal to ensure contract terms align with regulatory standards and enterprise policies.
  • Supplier Relationship & Performance Management Manage strategic suppliers, including machine manufacturers, disposable suppliers, and water system providers.
  • Lead quarterly/biannual business reviews, reviewing quality, delivery, service, cost trends, recalls, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of supplier risk factors and implement mitigation plans (dual sourcing, inventory buffers, safety stock, qualification of alternates).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with clinical leaders to ensure products support patient safety, clinical protocols, and treatment outcomes.
  • Collaborate with biomedical engineering on equipment qualification, maintenance agreements, technical evaluations, and lifecycle planning.
  • Align with operations to understand clinic volume growth, geographic differences, and product adoption readiness.
  • Work with finance to build business cases, assess capital spend, analyze ROI, and forecast budget impact.
  • Financial Management & Value Delivery Identify cost-saving and value-creation opportunities across the category through volume leverage, standardization, innovation, contract optimization, and supplier consolidation.
  • Manage annual cost improvement targets and report progress to senior leadership.
  • Evaluate alternative equipment platforms, consumables, and technologies that enhance efficiency, cost control, or patient experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Healthcare Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8–12+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management.
  • Proven success managing medical device, capital equipment, or healthcare supplies categories.
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience leading multi-million-dollar sourcing events and contract structures.
  • Experience working in regulated healthcare environments.
  • Advanced analytical abilities, including financial modeling and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proven ability to influence at all levels.
  • CPSM or equivalent Supply Chain certifications are a plus
