The Director, Strategic Program and Project Management will lead the newly established Program Management Office (PMO) at Schwab Investor Services. This highly visible leadership position is responsible for enterprise-grade project management practices, developing structured intake processes, and ensuring key initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and with a high standard of quality. The Director will partner closely with leaders across retail service, strategy, product management, and client service transformation to ensure alignment, accountability, and measurable business impact. This role reports to the Managing Director, Strategy & Transformation - Client Service and Support.

  • Lead the Centralized PMO: Oversee the enterprise-wide portfolio of projects, establishing a cohesive and scalable project management framework that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Establish Best Practices: Define and implement PMO standards, tools, and methodologies to ensure consistency, transparency, and accountability across all projects.
  • Project Intake & Prioritization: Evaluate and optimize the project intake and governance process to ensure that resources are aligned to strategic priorities and value delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with leaders across retail operations, client services, product management, strategy, and transformation teams to ensure seamless execution and alignment of initiatives.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and lead a high-performing team of project and program managers. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Performance Management: Establish KPIs and dashboards to track progress, measure success, and report to executive leadership on project portfolio performance.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring delivery milestones are met and business outcomes are achieved.
  • Change Leadership: Champion change management and promote adoption of new processes, tools, and governance models throughout the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Prior management consulting experience and Advanced degree (MBA or related field) preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in project and program management.
  • Minimum of 10 years of people leadership experience, with at least 5 years leading other people leaders.
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling PMO functions within large, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven skills in strategic vision, leadership, complex problem-solving, analytical thinking, risk management, budget oversight, and extensive stakeholder engagement.
  • Deep understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to set a long-term vision, understand the big picture, and connect projects to overall organizational strategy.
  • Ability to make significant progress with minimal direction and to make decisions, pivot, and structure pathways forward in the face of ambiguity.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and drive alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and leading high performing teams, influencing stakeholders, and fostering a culture of collaboration.
  • Inspiring people leader with track record of empowering and actively fostering the growth and development of individuals.
  • Ability to identify talent, recruit, hire, and build high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in transforming project intake, governance, and portfolio management processes.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, communication skills.
  • Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to distill complex information for business partners and communicate effectively at an executive level.
  • Base Compensation: $180,000-230,000.
  • Eligible for bonus or other incentive opportunities.
